How to Grow Your Social Media Following for Bloggers

Are you looking to grow your social media following to help benefit your blog in some way?

Social media is one of the best ways to grow a blog. You can get more readers, gain more subscribers, and essentially make more money with social media. Bloggers who don’t utilize social media will often have a harder time generating more traffic.

In this guide, I’ll cover everything you need to know about growing your social media following as a blogger.

Why You Should Grow Your Social Media Presence

There are many reasons why you should want to grow your social media presence for blogging.

For starters, social media is where most of your audience likely hangs out. It’s easy to find your audience on social media, as well, making marketing efforts a lot simpler than anywhere else. There are multiple platforms where you can promote your blog.

In this guide, I’m not focusing on a specific social media platform but rather any of them where your audience is at.

First, you need to know who your audience is based on your blog niche. Then, you need to research social media platforms to see which ones your audience is using the most. After that, you need a reason for promoting on social media, such as getting more readers, gaining mailing list subscribers, or generating revenue from your blog products.

Now that you know how important it is to grow your social media, let’s explore what you need to do to start today.

Grow Your Social Media

Set Clear Goals and Pick the Right Platforms

You can’t grow your social media unless you choose the right goals and choose the right platforms.

Your first step is ensuring that you know your niche, are passionate about your niche, understand your audience, and have your brand in mind when creating on social media. Make sure you’re choosing social media platforms where your target audience actually is rather than overwhelming yourself by signing up for every one of them you can find. Focusing on fewer platforms allows you to build larger followers that will get more follower-to-reader-to-customer conversions at the end of the day.

RECAP: Know your community, join the right platforms and don’t overwhelm yourself if you want to grow your social media for blogging.

Optimize Your Profile

Your profile must stand out if you want to grow your social media presence and attract more readers to your blog.

Start by using a high-quality profile and cover photo on the main page of your social media account, and make sure it reflects your brand. Include a keyword-rich bio with a clear Call to Action, sending people to your blog or newsletter. You could also include a link that shows multiple CTAs, like a Link Tree or a page you’ve made on your website.

RECAP: Add some good pictures, make sure the story is present, and don’t forget to have some kind of link on your profile.

Develop a Content Strategy

Grow your social media by developing an effective content strategy that will actually get results when you utilize it.

Make sure you know what core topics you will be posting about, such as the main topics you post about on your blog. Utilize all the different post formats, including engagement questions, images, reels, stories, threads, and live sessions. To be the most effective, try posting a few times a day and consistently every day.

RECAP: If you want to be successful with social media, focus on specific topics, post using all the popular formats, and be consistent about your content creation.

Create High-Value, Shareable Content

Your content has to be its very best if you want to use it to grow your social media for blogging.

Make sure that only the content you post will either educate, entertain, or inspire your target readers. Use relevant hashtags and SEO tactics to help your content show up better on internal and external search results. Try to include some sort of engagement bait or call-to-action in your post to get people to engage with you.

RECAP: Post valuable content, use SEO to help it rank in search, and engage with your followers to grow your social media page and boost traffic to your blog.

Engage Like Crazy (Especially Early On)

If you truly want to grow your social media page, you’ll need to focus more on engagement than anything else.

You need to reply to every comment and message and make sure you reply to keep the discussion going or to build a relationship. Make sure you comment on other posts and pages within your niche so that your audience starts to notice you. Try to follow, like, and engage with your target audience so that they return the favor.

RECAP: Reply to every comment while you can, comment on pages like yours to get noticed more, and often engage with your audience to grow your following.

Collaborate with and Leverage Micro-Communities

Take advantage of established communities to help grow your social media presence and push traffic to your blog.

Join niche-related groups, communities, chats, and subreddits and become very active and contributing to them. Partner with other creators around the same level as you and help each other out when possible. Tag other pages like yours to help increase visibility and develop relationships with other creators.

RECAP: Join other groups like yours on social media, partner with other creators like you, and engage with creators to build friendships.

Track Analytics and Adjust as You Grow

If you want to grow your social media presence effectively, you must understand your analytics and insights.

Use each platform’s built-in insights to see what works and what doesn’t in terms of your social media strategy. Look at metrics that matter, such as the best time of day to post, post types, and engagement rates. Monitor your insights weekly and refine your strategy each month based on what has been working best for your page growth.

RECAP: Make sure you understand how to read your social media page’s analytics. Focus on metrics that actually tell you a story about what’s working and not working, and adjust as needed based on your findings.

Be Patient, Consistent, and Real

You won’t grow your social media presence overnight, and the sooner you realize that the easier it will be to start growing the right way.

Growing a social media channel can take some time and even years for some people. You need to focus on becoming known by consistently engaging and creating your voice and brand with your profile. Don’t focus on huge goals; instead, focus on smaller ones that you can actually win within a shorter period of time.

RECAP: Give your social media growth some time, become known within your niche, and focus on small wins to motivate you to keep pushing forward.
