How to Use AI for Blogging the Ethical Way
Have you wondered about how to use AI for blogging in an ethical way?
Some people say AI is good for blogging and some people say AI is bad for blogging. It can be difficult to choose a side when you don’t know for sure. As a blogging addict, I did some extensive research into it on my own, of course, without the help of AI.
I’ve learned that AI is not the enemy, but if we use it unethically, then we make AI the enemy.
Artificial Intelligence can help us with smaller tasks while freeing up time for us to focus on the more important matters of running a successful and profitable blog.
In this post, I’ll show you how to use AI for blogging ethically and what to avoid.
Use AI for Blogging Support, Not Replacement!
Don’t use AI to replace blogging tasks, such as fully writing your blog. Instead, use AI for blogging support and assistance.
BRAINSTORMING – AI is a great tool for brainstorming ideas and topics that you want to write about on your blog. Just remember that AI isn’t always accurate with its research and that you should double-check its findings.
EDITING – AI is a great editing helper. You can use ChatGPT or something like Grammarly to edit your blog post quickly. I would stick with grammar and spelling edits and shy away from replacing sentences since that could remove your voice from the post.
REFINING IDEAS – AI can help you refine your ideas and sections on blog posts. Just make sure that it’s not changing the goals of what you’re writing about. You need to be in control of the main target keyword and content.
DON’T REPLACE HUMAN WORKERS – Don’t use AI for blogging to replace human workers. It’s not ethical to harm someone’s job. If you’re already hiring real people, you’ll earn a reputation if you replace them with artificial intelligence tools.
AI IS YOUR ASSISTANT, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND – AI is your assistant. You are not the assistant to AI. Don’t let AI do all the work while you stand in the shadows. Don’t let AI take your opinions and demands away from you.
DEPENDING ON AI IS SKILL SHATTERING – If you depend on AI for blogging, too much, you’ll start losing your skills and expertise. You need to be an expert in your niche and industry. The only way to do that is to keep learning and doing things yourself.
As you can see from the examples above, using AI to support your blogging is a great idea, but replacing what you do is basically replacing you.
Before You Use AI to Write Your Blog…
Those who use AI for blogging tasks like writing the entire article for them are really damaging their search engine ranking and reputation.
REWRITE IN YOUR OWN VOICE – If you lose creativity and you need to use AI to write sections or even your entire blog post, you should at least rewrite the sections or entire post in your own words. By not doing that, you sacrifice your voice in your post that truly makes it yours.
BE THE AUTHOR OR YOU’RE A FAKE – If you don’t be the true author of your content, then you’re nothing more than a fake. It won’t take your readers that long to realize it’s AI-generated content, either. Once someone realizes that your content is AI-generated, it might be hard to recover from the negative impacts that will likely follow.
AI COULD VIOLATE COPYRIGHT – In some cases, AI may violate copyright. The AI prompt could deliver content that is word-for-word of what other people have written. If you don’t check to make sure it’s unique or not, you might get popped for a copyright violation. Do a Google Search of the exact phrases or rewrite them in your own words and voice so that you know they’re unique to your content.
MAKE SURE YOU FACT CHECK YOURSELF – AI isn’t always accurate, and even ChatGPT and other platforms warn about that. Make sure you check the facts that AI has given you to ensure accuracy and truthfulness; otherwise, you might be accused of lying. Make sure you check the text generated on images, as well, because AI has been known to mess up text when generating images.
DISCLOSE YOUR AI USE TO THOSE THAT HIRE YOU – If someone or a company hires you to write. You use AI in any form, whether to assist or do all the work; it’s only ethical if you are fully transparent about your use of it. Not being transparent could result in legal action if the contract specifies it.
USING AI TO GENERATE CONTENT COULD DAMAGE YOU. If you use AI for blogging in terms of creating your entire post and you’re caught, it could significantly damage your reputation. Your readers and customers will likely abandon you and never trust you again.
AI CONTENT CREATION MAY BE BAD FOR SEO—AI-generated content could be bad for search engine optimization. Google and other search engines are still stating that creating content with AI could negatively impact how your content is ranked on search engine results.
As you can see, depending on AI to write your entire blog is using AI for blogging in a very bad way. Doing this can do more harm for you and your blog than good.
How to Use AI for Blogging (Ethically)
You can use AI for blogging in a very ethical way. You should do it, too, because it is going to help you save a lot of time to focus on more important matters.
USE AI TO GENERATE TOPIC IDEAS – Use AI for blogging topic ideas. You can narrow your ideas down to your main niche or focus on your cornerstone content. AI can help you generate a full content calendar to keep you ahead of the game.
USE AI TO HELP WITH COPYWRITING – If you’re not that good at copywriting and sales persuasion writing, AI can help you in this area. You can use it to create an intro that will hook and reader and an outro that provides a valuable call to action.
USE AI TO BETTER TITLES AND HEADINGS – AI is great tool for helping you create better titles for your blog posts and headings that you include within the content. You can ask AI to use your voice but change the title and header to be more engaging to readers.
USE AI TO CREATE SUMMARIES FOR POSTS – You can use AI to create summaries of your blog posts. This can be great if you want to share them on social media or if you’re creating a curation of content you have created. You can also use AI to help you create a good Table of Contents for your blog post.
USE AI TO BREAK DOWN COMPLEX IDEAS – Sometimes it’s hard for us to give readers instructions how to complete their biggest challenges in the easiest way possible. With AI, you can ask it to break down complex ideas for you to better help your audience.
USE AI TO CREATE OUTLINES FOR POSTS – If you need an outline for your next blog post, you can use AI to create that for you. You may have already created an outline on your own but AI could take your outline and add to it to help you fill in any gaps of information you might be missing.
USE AI TO CREATE IMAGES FOR YOUR BLOG – If you’re not good at graphic design, AI can help you in this department. You can AI generate images to be used on your blog content. The good news is the images are unique, and therefore, you don’t have to worry about copyright violations.
Using AI for blogging can be very ethical as long as you don’t rely on it for things that you should be doing, like writing the content.
What Do You Think About This?
Thanks for reading my article about using AI for ethical blogging. I only used AI for the editing portion of this article. I use it to catch grammar and spelling errors that I miss. I don’t replace sentences or let them add new content because that’s my job as a writer.
I’m interested in how you use AI for your blogging activities. Whether you use it or don’t, please comment below and tell me about it. I’m excited to hear what you have to say.
